Cat Kabira

I became obsessed with yoga and meditation when I was 18 years old at Boston University, looking for a way to heal from anorexia. I had no idea at that time that I was stepping into practices that would change the course of my life.

I’d experienced trauma growing up - physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, that resulted in me being anxious most of the time, out of my body, and an overachiever and pleaser to others while having a deep sadness I couldn’t figure out.

It took me a while to heal; however; between yoga, meditation, all of the energetic and somatic work, plant medicine, and numerous therapies I tried out around the world, I finally did! I also determined which practices were effective and which ones weren’t. I’ve healed from my eating disorders, stabilized myself, learned how to manage my emotions, feel safe and healthy around others, and, most importantly, I now focus on how I want to create in this wondrous world and look for new ways to take exquisite risks and adventure. I’ll admit I never planned a career in this, but I was so passionate about practices and discoveries that were game changers to my quality of life that I couldn’t help sharing with others.

Even though the past 30 years have been a search to relieve my pain, it’s also been about growth and exploration. I love finding new ways to challenge my body and mind. In the past I’ve danced, trapezed and circused art’d, I’ve surfed and hiked and climbed and biked. I compose on the piano, I love writing stories, and to me life is art. This body is a gift and I plan to keep exploring the inner and outer worlds with it and be an old lady who can still trot up a mountain and learn new things. I’ve been traveling and working all over the globe and this also won’t stop.

I’ve been a nomad my whole life and while my base has been in Bali for almost 20 years, I’m often found sashaying around the globe. I love people, and while working online is fun, seeing you in person is even better. I’ve known what it’s like to live with pain and to feel dominated by it and I also know what it’s like to live with joy, pleasure and curiosity again. And that’s what I want to bring to you. Why else did we incarnate into this beautiful life?

Yogini+

I’m an internationally renowned yoga instructor and energetic healer (E-RYT 500, RYS-300, MVP) with over 20 years of professional experience. I’ve taught thousands of students and trained hundreds of yoga teachers and healers worldwide.

I started my yoga, energetic, and meditation practices in 1997 as a way to heal from my eating disorders and found these practices integral in transforming sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. What I found powerful about meditation was finally having a way to connect to my own power and wisdom - I didn’t need someone else to tell me what to do, believe, or choose.

What I loved about yoga was having a safe and playful way to be in my body again and, not only that - I found these magical sensations that started my love affair with energy and knowing how my body speaks to itself.

I started teaching yoga in 2002 by accident. I came home from Thailand and asked my then-yoga teacher when she would teach next. She told me, “You’re taking over my classes.” I was terrified and excited. And this is how my career began. I taught all over Boston and surrounding areas for 3 years and then was flown to Tokyo to teach my first yoga trainings. From there, I took a vacation to Bali and on my 2nd day there, I was offered a job managing a yoga studio (which is now known as “The Yoga Barn”) and teaching yoga classes. The rest is history.

As a founding teacher of The Yoga Barn in Ubud, Bali, I was integral in launching the international yoga scene in Southeast Asia that then spread across the world.

I’m a voracious learner and have trained extensively with well-known and lesser-known masters around the world. My expertise includes:

  • Yin (which I now call Biodynamic Yin)

  • Hatha

  • Vinyasa

  • Forrest

  • Power

  • Yoga Nidra (which I now have created Vision Quests from)

  • Yoga Therapeutics with Jasmine Lieb

  • Restorative yoga

I completed my first yoga teacher training in 2002 and have trained with several teachers and traditions since then. What’s informed my teaching is not just the teachers I’ve had but moreso my deeply devoted practice of 30 years, the decades of learning my students have given me, and my extensive exploration into the subtle energetic world.

I’m not your conventional yoga teacher. I love movement and the body, and everyone is unique. I sense subtle energy, emotions, the stories we hold about ourselves, our secret powers, and the way we believe the world to be in how we move. The body is a love story, a shamanic tool, and our direct portal to God. I’ve blended into my asana teaching my own training in biodynamic craniosacral therapy, somatic practices, shamanic and energetic arts as well as my practice in psychology, pilates, dance, some Feldenkrais,  the Gyrotonic Expansion Method, and functional training.

My current teachings are a synergy of my years of expertise, practice, study, and integrated wisdom.

My classes are intense (as well as so fun!), and you’ll meet parts of yourself you either have been missing, forgotten, or never knew existed. It’s a place to recover and restore, and also where you’ll find out powers you didn’t know you had. I’ve also spent a long time exploring my own Inner Mystic, and I’d love for you to meet yours as well.

It’s a personal passion for me to help others discover their own gods within and to find the joy of being as I personally understand the pain in living. Along with trauma and abuse, I’ve dealt with loss and grief. Yoga isn’t just a philosophy, it’s a practice to hold me through endings. Yoga is the place where we not only find the universe inside, it’s where we discover the place of infinity and how to hold ourselves elegantly in the place of death and change.

Energy Healer

I always had a had a hard time being in this world and the world finally began to make sense to me when I started to work with subtle energy. I’d always been highly sensitive, intuitive, and empathic, but I never knew how to manage it and it oftentimes felt like a burden I wanted to numb out from. Even though I attended a mystery school (a school exploring my psychic, intuitive, supernatural and magical self) when I was 9 and worked with a medicine man when I was 13, I was very resistant to this “otherworldly” aspect of myself, fearing that others would think I was crazy.

When I initially went to University I was planning to become a doctor. I felt failed by the medical system myself, unable to heal my eating disorders and ongoing illnesses. I finally admitted that it was the exploration I was doing with energy work and meditation that was supporting me more. This was the beginning of my path, and I decided to devote myself to energy medicine instead. My favorite thing about energy healing is how much my health has improved. I was often sick growing up and became used to always having to manage poor health. I also didn’t understand the link between the body, mind and emotions.

I’m a voracious learner, and while over the decades I have tried out many practices, what’s largely informed me the most is my own exploration in my own energy body. This is why I’m so passionate about helping others know themselves on such a refined level. My experience in yoga, meditation, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, shamanic practices, the Barbara Brennan School, Somato-Emotional Release, somatic experiencing practices, trauma therapy, and spiritual psychology all deeply inform my work. Having had to work through trauma myself, I’ve been very skillful in having an approach that works for others with a history of trauma as well as how to transform it. My other greatest teaching has been my dedication in working with others, especially as I’ve been able to work with all ages from babies to 90-year-olds all over the world and especially those who are suffering from mental, emotional and/or physical pain. This in itself has taught me more than any course I’ve taken.

I’m not a miracle worker, though I’ve witnessed miracles and the true work I do with energy is beyond any training or methodology that I do. I was also born with a gift which I want to share  share with you.

I’ve developed an entire energy school called the Kabira Energy School where you can learn how to support and uplevel your own energy system as well as become a qualified practitioner through my Energy Healing Practitioner Certification Program (EHPCP).

“Cat is a unique teacher, healer and human who is powerful in the most delicate way. I am beyond grateful for the work I have been doing with Cat these past years, both in-person and online private sessions. From day one with Cat, I felt this immense trust for her. She holds such a loving, warm and authentic space with lots of respect and integrity, and I love her ability to put words on what seemingly is unexplainable. My online sessions with Cat have helped me to ground in even more and get a bird’s perspective of my life. Everything just feels easier and I can physically feel a difference in my body. But what I love the most with working with Cat is that nothing is weird. All is welcome. This life perspective has helped me to accept myself on a deeper level, and for that I am truly grateful.”
