biography

As a severely anorexic 18 year old Cat Kabira found yoga, and through yoga, she discovered the ability to live with delight and joy. "What I loved was how yoga and meditation became tools for me in listening to myself... how to safely feel again... work through all the numbness I'd built up through the years.” Sadly, this numbness is something that many of us live with, its presence sometimes dominating our lives. What Cat found in yoga and meditation was a sense of stillness, an ability to be able to listen compassionately to her body, her mind, and her spirit. With this growing sense of self, Cat found she was able to slowly begin her journey to wellness, a wellness she could not truly remember having ever experienced before. It is this cultivation of the full self that is present in every one of her yoga classes.

Since beginning her yoga practice at age18 while a student at Boston University studying English, French, and African Studies, Cat has dedicated her self to the study and practice of yoga, meditation, energy healing and shamanic work. Her dynamic yet soft presence, enthusiasm, intensity, and humor, coupled with her softness, knowledge, and sensitivity lead you through a practice that is genuine, personally rewarding, and well-rounded in every aspect. “Life can be a fun, wild, intense, and sometimes strange process,”according to Cat, but always remember… “Our power is not just to fly but to know how to land, ground, and give the gifts we've discovered from our flight”.

Certified by The 7 Centers Yoga Arts and The Forrest Yoga Foundation and registered through The Yoga Alliance of America, Cat has a diverse background and studies in Tantra, Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa, Power Yoga, Kundalini, Forrest, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kripalu, Anusara, Ayurveda, Shamanic Studies, Osho Meditiation, Zen Meditation, Vipassana, Firewalking, Cranio-Sacral Training, and The Hoffman Process, No class is the same, but the contract between Cat and her students always is: be real, be you, be here, be now, and encourages you to connect with your core, stay in your power, and do not stray.

Cat teaches her personal interpretation of Forrest Yoga combining the work she did with Forrest herself along with the work that she has done with shamans and healers around the world. What is unique about Cat is that she never begins a class without reading the energy in the room, divining what is needed for that group of people on that day.

Cat has been teaching for the past 8 years and combined with over 16 years of global travel and exploration, her teaching style results from her life experiences and encounters of the diversity in cultures along the way, as well as her long-term commitment to the exploration and experimentation of yoga and asana. She has studied and practiced under many talented masters and shares this experience in every class, workshop, retreat and teacher training she guides and participates in.

She has taught in Boston, Bali, Byron Bay, Chicago, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Jakarta, Phnom Penh, Sedona, St. Louis, Tokyo, and Vermont to name a few, and has been traveling, living abroad, and studying “the global village” and cultures since the age of 15 in countries including Switzerland, Italy, France, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Mexico, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, Niger, Burkina Faso, Benin, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Peru.
